| I haven't really had much to write about until something strange happened to me today.

I was on the blue line on the way home after school with Eric, Matt,
and Danny and there was this lady sitting diagonally from me, next to
Matt. The four of us struck up a conversation about our vacation until
we were interrupted by this lady, who suggested that we sit next to one
another if we were to talk to each other. We, or at least I, thought
she was just trying to be funny, so we just shrugged off her comment at
first. We continued until the lady stopped muttering to herself and
said out loud and directly at me, "I hate Chinese people." At first, I
was shocked moreso than disgusted, because this hasn't really happened
to me before. We just continued talking in disbelief, futiley trying to
ignore what just happened with her continuing to tell us to shut up and
even went to the lengths of mocking us. The lady then muttered some
other words and called me a "Chinese freak" and repeated "I hate
Chinese people" verbatim. She then stormed out of the train kicking
someone's bag along the way with us bidding her farewell sarcastically,
which was followed by an, "Up yours" from her. Our whole section just
sat there dumbfounded and confused at what just happened.
I've never really had a full confrontation with racism before, so I
didn't really know how to reply or feel when she said such things. This
woman obviously had some issues and after I came to grips and realized
how direct and how spiteful she had uttered that phrase, I could do
nothing else but pity her. I mean, Neo-Nazi's have been less open about
their feelings in public, especially when alone. What else can you feel
when you are facing someone whose concept of life is filled with hatred
and bigotry... except pity? How ignorant and narrow minded must a
person be to think in such a way? God bless her soul.
